It's Time to Retire the Mortgage 

ITHACA (Dec. 10, 2010) - Alumni President Randy Shayler ’72 this week wrote all 1,400 DU brothers, asking them to remember the Cornell chapter as they make their year-end charitable contributions.

“It’s time we retire the mortgage,” announced Brother Shayler. 

As Randy wrote, the chapter is as healthy as ever: 55 active members; solid financial condition; ranked No. 2 among all DU chapters by DU International; high academic standing; an unequaled intramural program; brothers in leadership positions on campus; and a rewarding social life.

The alumni association is strong too, with one major exception: DU continues to face significant financial challenges. Our $1 million loan from the university – that funded the major facility renovations in 2002 – has a balance of $150,000 (with monthly payments of $5,200).  

One-hundred-forty generous brothers have already contributed $850,000 over time – indeed, an extraordinary achievement in these times. It’s time to finish the job. We have important projects to complete, including a first-floor ladies’ room, handicap access and party room update. But we must first satisfy our loan obligation.

Please donate today to the Cornell University Delta Upsilon Group Housing Fund #279004 – a special fund set up by the university to fund chapter improvements. It has three important features:

–   100% of it will go to support 6 South Avenue

–   It’s fully tax-deductible

–   It counts towards Class Gift and Tower Club requirements.
